moisture absorption and can be dissolved and mixed in water, methanol, ethanol, acetone and slightly
soluble in ethyl ether.
It has strong reactivity and various chemical reactions, such as oxidation, dehydration, permutation,
polymerizations, ammoniations, esterifications, halogenations, etc. Through these reactions, it can form a series of important chemical products.
Through reaction of acetylene and formaldehyde at presence of catalyst to produce 1,4-butynediol (BYD)
and then by catalytic hydrogenation to obtain BDO. It also can be produced by reaction of 1,3-butadiene,
acetic acid and oxygen through acetyl oxidation, hydrogenation, hydrolysis, etc.
BDO is an important raw material for basic organic chemicals and fine chemicals. Except for being used in
producing various high value added fine chemical products, such as PBT, THF, GBL, NMP, NVP, PU, high
performance SPANDEX, it can also be widely used as solvent, medical cosmetics, plasticizing agent, firming
agent, pesticide, phytocide, foam artificial leather, fiber, engineering plastic, etc.

point (open cup),-15℃. Self-ignition point 610℃. It can be mixed with water, alcohol, ketone, benze, ester,aether
and hydrocarbons. Irritative to eye and skin. The nature of THF is stable and not reacted with alkali and
diluted acid. Need to add stabilizer for storage to avoid forming up peroxide. With such advantages as
low toxicity, low boiling point and good fluidity, THF is being considered as important organic synthesis
raw material and excellent solvent.
It could form up explosive peroxide in open air. Under the pressurized conditions, it can react with HCL to
form 1,4-Dichlorobutane. It is used as solvent for natural and synthesis resin (especially for vinyl resin). Also to
be used for producing butadiene, adiponitrile, adipic acid, hexamethylene diamine, etc.
By utilizing furfural as raw material, it could be produced through catalytic reaction to dispel aldehyde and
then catalytic hydrogenation. It could also be produced by furan hydrogenation or 1,4 butanediol
dehydration and ring-closing.
THF is a kind of good solvent, used in organic synthesis, pharmacy industry, natural and synthesis resin
(especially for vinyl resin), etc. It is the raw material for synthesis medicine, such as Pentoxyverine,
Progesterone. Also used for producing polyurethane elastomer, spandex fibre and high
performance fuels, etc.
